Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a stroll through the vibrant streets of Thamel. In the evening, there will be a short briefing about the trek ahead. Kathmandu is a cultural hub, filled with ancient temples, markets, and warm hospitality.

Day 2: Fly to Nepalgunj

Today we fly to Nepalgunj, a bustling town in the western lowlands of Nepal near the Indian border. This hot, subtropical town is a gateway to the far west. In the evening, you can explore the local bazaars and enjoy southern Nepali food—spicy, flavorful, and different from Kathmandu cuisine.

Day 3: Fly to Simikot (2,910m)

A stunning morning flight takes us to Simikot, the district headquarters of Humla. The landscape shifts dramatically—from plains to remote hills. Simikot sits on a ridge overlooking deep valleys and offers the first glimpse into life in far-western Nepal. You’ll notice the influence of both Hindu and Buddhist traditions here.

Day 4: Trek to Dojam (2,540m)

We begin our trek descending gradually through pine forests and scattered villages. The trail offers glimpses of rural life—farmers working fields of buckwheat and barley, children running barefoot, and yaks grazing on open pastures. We reach the peaceful village of Dojam by late afternoon, nestled in a tranquil setting by the river.

Trek Time: 6-7 hrs

Day 5: Trek to Sabakong (3,186m)

We follow the river upstream, passing through rhododendron forests and meadows. Birds are abundant here—look out for Himalayan monals, snow pigeons, and redstarts. Our camp is near the riverbank at Sabakong, where you’ll sleep to the sound of flowing water and wind rustling through pines.

Day 6: Trek to Dhumling (3,585m)

The path gradually climbs into higher terrain. We pass chortens (Buddhist shrines) and mani walls carved with sacred prayers. The landscape becomes more open and wild. By the time we reach Dhumling, we’re well into the alpine zone. Locals may offer butter tea—a salty, buttery drink that warms you up in the highlands.

Day 7: Trek to Gurukpa (3,985m)

We gain more altitude and cross yak herding areas. Blue sheep may be spotted on nearby slopes, and vultures soar overhead. The air becomes crisp, and prayer flags flutter from rock cairns. Gurukpa sits beneath towering cliffs, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 8: Trek to Midokding and Tashilung (4,290m)

Day 9: Trek to Changmatang (4,556m)

We reach Changmatang, a wide, grassy meadow surrounded by rock walls and glaciers—this is the base camp for crossing the Phyajang La. Herds of wild goats roam the area, and the sky is usually crystal clear. Rest well here before the big climb.

Day 10: rek to Phyajang La Pass (5,496m) and Base Camp (4,817m)

An early start takes us to the highest point of the trek—Phyajang La Pass. The climb is challenging but incredibly rewarding. From the top, the views are surreal: snow-capped peaks in every direction, and on clear days, glimpses of the sacred Mount Kailash. We descend to the base camp in a glacial valley and camp under a million stars.

Day 11: Trek to Chhorten Chhobu (4,200m)

The trail descends through a rocky corridor to Chhorten Chhobu, where ancient chortens mark the landscape. Locals say this area is sacred, watched over by mountain spirits. The scenery is mystical, and even the wind seems to whisper.

Day 12: Trek to Takchi (4,200m)

Takchi is a small village surrounded by barley fields and traditional stone houses. The people here are ethnically Tibetan and follow Vajrayana Buddhism. Expect warm smiles, spinning prayer wheels, and the scent of juniper incense in the air.

Day 13: Trek to Chyakpalong

We descend gently along a scenic trail, where herders often graze yaks and goats. Chyakpalong is another quiet settlement offering expansive views and a strong sense of Himalayan peace.

Day 14: Day Hike to Lapcha La Viewpoint and Return

Today is a spiritual highlight. We hike to Lapcha La Viewpoint, from where Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar appear across the border in Tibet. Pilgrims from India, Nepal, and Tibet consider this region supremely sacred. The moment is emotional for many—it’s not just a view, but a deep connection to something ancient and pure.

Day 15: Trek back to Takchi

We retrace our steps and return to Takchi, now familiar and comforting. You might join locals for evening chants or just enjoy a warm Tibetan meal of thukpa (noodle soup) and tsampa (barley flour).

Day 16: Trek to Halji (3,750m)

Halji is one of the most culturally significant villages in the Limi Valley. It’s home to Rinchenling Monastery, an 11th-century treasure of Tibetan Buddhism. The stone houses, narrow lanes, and spinning prayer wheels transport you back in time.

Day 17: Rest Day in Halji

Today we explore Halji, visit the monastery, and interact with locals. The villagers are kind and proud of their heritage. You’ll likely hear Tibetan chants, witness butter lamp offerings, and maybe even be invited for homemade yak cheese.

Day 18: Trek to Jang Hot Spring (3,980m)

A gentle trek brings us to Jang Hot Spring, a natural thermal bath in the heart of the highlands. It’s a perfect spot to rest tired muscles, take in the scenery, and reflect on the journey so far.

Day 19: Trek to Takchi (4,200m)

We return to Takchi once more, feeling like part of the village now. The simplicity, kindness, and beauty of this remote life leave a lasting impression.

The trail climbs again into raw Himalayan terrain—glacial rivers, windswept valleys, and towering cliffs. Talung is wild and wide, perfect for stargazing and silence.

Day 21: Trek to Tsongsa (4,635m)

A steady climb takes us to Tsongsa, a place where snow leopards have occasionally been spotted. Watch for signs of wildlife and enjoy the untouched wilderness.

Day 22: Trek to Dhiga via Lek Dinga

A long but scenic day over the 4,523m Lek Dinga Pass. The descent to Dhiga at 3,645m takes us through different ecological zones—alpine meadows, rocky paths, and shrub forests. This is one of the most dramatic landscape transitions of the trek.

Day 23: Trek to Simikot

Our final day on foot. The return to Simikot feels emotional—each step brings memories of sacred passes, smiling villagers, and the sound of mountain winds. You’ll arrive in Simikot with a full heart and unforgettable stories.

Day 24: Fly to Nepalgunj and Back to Kathmandu

We say goodbye to Humla’s hills and fly back to the warmth of the lowlands, then onward to Kathmandu. The contrast between bustling city life and quiet mountain days is surreal, but the mountains will stay with you.

Day 25: Free Day in Kathmandu / Departure

Enjoy your last day in Kathmandu—explore hidden courtyards, buy some prayer flags or thanka paintings, and enjoy a farewell Nepali meal. Or just rest. When you depart, you’ll leave with not just photos, but a deeper sense of peace and wonder.

The Mt. Kailash trek via Changla Valley was peaceful, powerful, and absolutely unforgettable. The landscapes were unreal and the spiritual vibe of the whole journey was something I’ll never forget.
