Rasuwagadhi Route Closed by Flood — Simikot to Kailash Still Open

On July 8, 2025, a sudden flash flood triggered by heavy monsoon rains in the upper Chinese valleys of Kerung and Lhende destroyed the vital Nepal–China Friendship Bridge (Miteri Bridge) at Rasuwagadhi, Nepal.

The flood swept away over 200 electric vehicles parked at Timure dry port, caused severe infrastructure damage, and left 18 people missing. As a result, the popular overland route to Mount Kailash via Rasuwagadhi and Kerung is currently closed.

Simikot–Hilsa Route Remains Open—and Is Busier Than Ever

Despite the disruption in Rasuwa, the Simikot–Hilsa route via Humla is fully open, safe, and operational. In fact, this route is currently seeing a steady flow of Indian pilgrims, many of whom are flying directly from Simikot to Hilsa by helicopter, skipping the trek for a faster, smoother journey.

This is also the best season for visiting Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, with clear skies, high mountain visibility, and stable weather in both Nepal and Tibet.

Why Choose the Simikot Route?

- Fly to Simikot (2,910m) from Nepalgunj—your gateway into the wild Himalayan northwest.

- Take a helicopter from Simikot to Hilsa for a faster, more comfortable journey—popular among many Indian pilgrims this season.

- Or trek 5–6 days through Humla’s remote Bon and Tibetan Buddhist villages like Yalbang, Muchu, and Tumkot for a deeper spiritual experience.

- Acclimatize naturally while walking through sacred valleys, visiting ancient monasteries, and engaging with humble mountain communities.

- Cross into Tibet at Hilsa and continue overland toward Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash, completing your Yatra with purpose and depth.
