Expand AllArrival & Bike Setup- Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu. Use this afternoon to finalize your bike rental (recommend a high-clearance adventure bike like a Royal Enfield Himalayan or a Hero Xpulse 210), buy mandatory permits (ACAP for Mustang, and Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve permit, TIMS), and pack light. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Kathmandu to Bandipur via Nuwakot
Beat the Kathmandu traffic early. Head north toward Nuwakot to see the historic 7-story palace. From Nuwakot, cut across via the Galchhi or middle hills connecting roads to hit the Prithvi Highway, riding west to the beautiful, preserved Newari hilltop town of Bandipur. The road up to Bandipur is paved but look out for monsoon debris on the highway.
Bandipur to Kalopani
Ride down from Bandipur and push toward Pokhara, bypassing the main city to head straight for Beni. From Beni, the asphalt disappears. You will enter the Kali Gandaki corridor. The road from Beni to Tatopani and up to Kalopani is a mix of dirt, rocks, and potentially heavy mud or waterfall crossings during late August. Kalopani rewards you with sudden, dramatic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna if the monsoon clouds break.
Kalopani to Muktinath & back to Jomsom/Marpha
The terrain transitions from green gorges to an arid, Tibetan-plateau landscape. Ride through the windy valley of Jomsom and Kagbeni, climbing up to the sacred temple of Muktinath (3,710 m). After exploring the 108 water spouts, ride back down to spend the night in the beautiful apple-orchard village of Marpha to position yourself for the tough mountain detour ahead.
Marpha to Dhorpatan
This is your toughest day. You will ride back down the Mustang corridor toward Beni/Darbang and take the rough, remote mountain tracks heading west into the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve. This area is highly off-the-beaten-path. Expect slick mud, steep gravel switchbacks, and isolated trails. Reach the high alpine meadows of Dhorpatan before dark.
Dhorpatan to Taksera
Ride through the rugged landscapes connecting Dhorpatan out toward the western segments of the Mid-Hill Highway. Recently opened rough jeep track and crossing the Utar ganga river toward Taksera village. This challenging trail will pass through stunning, rarely visited villages to reach Rukum (East Rukum) call Taksera. ,
Taksera to Rumkot
Ride through a recently opened Jeep track that cuts directly through the remote villages and terraced fields of East Rukum. After navigating a deep, dense forest trail, you will connect back with the main Mid-Hill Highway to continue your ride into Rukumkot.
Rukumkot to Pokhara
A long, demanding endurance ride back eastward. You will use the Mid-Hill Highway link to ride toward Burtibang, Baglung, and eventually connect back to the paved roads leading into Pokhara. Drop your bags, grab a cold drink by Phewa Lake, and give your muscles a well-earned rest.
Pokhara to Kathmandu-
Ride the classic Prithvi Highway back to Kathmandu. Riding up to Mugling can be one of the best parts of your trip, but from Mugling onward traffic can be busy and slow.
Fly back to Home
Pack your gear, do some last-minute souvenir shopping, and catch your flight back home.
