Trip Overview

Poon hill, a hilltop situated at an altitude of 3192 meters is perhaps the highlight of this journey provides some some excellent views of both the Annapurna to the east as well as the Dhaulagirito the west. The experience of sunrise views one can get from Poon Hill has become very famous among trekkers.

Mainly traveling through a Gurung culture practicing villages, some of these old villages on route has lush forests of bamboo, oak and rhododendron particularly very apparent in the spring. 

This trek is the most popular short trek in Nepal. It provides stunning scenery and opportunities to get closer to the ways of mountain life. The lodges on the way are with good facilities, hot showers and good food.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1338 m)

Upon your arrival at the airport and completing the customs formalities - you will be received by our representative outside the airport terminal. After greetings, we will drive you to the hotel. Firante Treks will host a welcome dinner in a top rated Nepali restaurant serving you delectable Nepali cuisine - an introduction to the Nepali food culture, later in the evening.

Meals: Welcome Dinner.

Accommodation: A 3 Star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Fly Ktm - Pokhara & Drive to Nayapul, Trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m)

Today your Ghorepani Poon hill trek begins firstly by driving to Nayapul. We drive by passing through the flourishing village named Lumle. We will commence our trek from Nayapul trekking towards the large prosperous town of Birethanti located at the junction of Burundi and Modi Khola.

We then follow the main trail that leads to bamboo forests and passes a huge cascading waterfall. Continuing trekking to the side of valley leads us to Tikhedhunga. Today we will be trekking approximately 4-5 hrs.

Day 3: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2860 m & 9380 feet)

Today our trek will be quite challenging because we have to overcome 3300 stairs of stone. At first, we will traverse the river through a suspension bridge and then ascend via steep stone stairs towards Ulleri (a flourishing village at 2080 meters). The village is mostly inhabited by Magar ethnicity. After that, we will gradually trek from Ulleri and come across two stunning serene rivers.

If you like watching different birds - you might get to spot varied birds of this region like dippers, kingfisher, forktails and many more. After that, we will take a short ascend to Nangethanti and here we have our lunch. After having our lunch - we will continue our trek towards Ghorepani at 2850 meters.

From Ghorepani, one can catch the captivating view of Annapurna I at 8091 meters, Dhaulagiri I at 8167 meters, Tukuche peak, Nilgiri at 6940 meters, Tarke kang at 7193 meters and Hiunchuli at 6441 meters. Today we will be trekking for approximately 5-6 hours.

Day 4: Hike to Poon Hill (3210 m & 10531 feet), Trek to Tadapani (2630 m & 8626 feet)

Today early morning - we will hike to Poonhill and view the magnificent sunrise views from Poon hill station point. It is the most beautiful view where one gets to view several snow-capped peaks with a striking sunrise view. The mountain we will get to spot is ranges of Mount Annapurna at 8091 meter, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Huinchuli, Machapuchre, Lamjung Himal, Dhampus peak, Tukuche peak and many more.

We will enjoy some time in this poon hill station taking outstanding pictures and retrace back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we will continue our trek and head towards Tadopani via rhododendron forests. If you are traveling in spring, then on the trails, you will be observing rhododendron flowers blooming all over.

We will be having our lunch at Banthanti and continue our trek through rhododendron forests. Before reaching Tadapani, we will ascend for half an hour. On the way, we will be getting a great view of south Annapurna, Machapuchre, and Huinchuli. Today we will be trekking approximately 6-7 hours.

Day 5: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940 m & 6360 feet)

Today we will start our trek by descending steeply from Tadapani. After that, we will trek through lush rhododendron trees with rhododendron red and pink flowers blooming all over. After a few treks, we will be entering the village of Ghadruk mostly inhabited by the Gurung ethnicity.

On the way, we will perceive Annapurna south, Huinchuli and Machapuchre (Fishtail). We will also be visiting Gurung museum located at Ghadruk and explore the culture and traditions of the Gurung civilization.  Today we will be walking for approximately 3-4 hours.

Day 6: Trek to Nayapul, Drive to Pokhara

Today we will be trekking from Ghadruk and head towards Nayapul and from here, we will dive back to Pokhara. We will be trekking downhill on the trail to Birethanti. We will be taking steps in the abundant staircase pave with stone and then reach the village with terraced fields.

Until we reach Modi Khola, we will be descending down from Ghadruk. Finally, we arrive at Birthanti and we will further trek for half an hour to reach Nayapul. Reaching Nayapul, we take a drive to Pokhara. In the evening, we will relish the lakeside view of Pokhara. We will spend our night in a hotel. Today we will be trekking approximately 4-5 hours & a drive of 1 hour.

Accommodation:  A 3 Star hotel in Pokhara.

Day 7: Back To Kathmandu

Today after having our breakfast - we will drive to Kathmandu and our representative will drop you at the hotel for you to freshen up. Next, you can visit some of the souvenir shops nearby and shop gifts for your loved ones. In the evening, we will host a farewell dinner in an excellent Nepali restaurant which serves you mouth-watering Nepali cuisine.

Meals: Breakfast & Farewell Dinner.

Accommodation:  A 3-Star Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 8: Final Departure

Today your Ghorepani Poon Hill trip comes to end and we hope that you had a great time with us and look further for your next adventure with us. Our representative will drop you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule.

 Firante Treks and Expedition Manages for best and comfortable accommodation and also provides you hygienic food. Standard (3 Star) are booked in the cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara, whereas a tyical trek lodge will be booked on remote areas. 

Luxurious rooms from 5 Star hotels are also made avaiable on demand in the cities on additional cost but remote regionss dont have such facilities.
