Trip Overview

This trek starts from Simikot which is situated at an elevation of 2910 meters and climbs up to Nara La pass (4530meters) and make a loop back to Simikot via Limi valley through scenic Nyalu La (4950m). This tough but rewarding trek offers the opportunity to meet the friendly villagers of upper Humla. Visit the monasteries that are 400-1000 years oldand experience the unique culture of the past still in practice. Added to this is a scenery of pine-forested Karnali gorge and beautiful Saipal and Nalakankad mountain range. The area untouched by modern changes and believed to be the present form of mythical Shangri-la. (Listed on Steve Razetti’s Top 10 treks in the world.) Travelers have to fly Simikot via Nepalgunj, the regional hub of Western Nepal.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m) – Warm Welcome to Nepal

Your adventure begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal’s bustling capital. Our friendly team will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After some rest, we’ll have a short briefing about your trek. If time allows, you can enjoy a relaxing walk through the lively streets of Thamel.

Day 2: Fly to Nepalgunj (200m) – Into the Western Lowlands

Today, we take a scenic flight to Nepalgunj, a city in the warm plains of western Nepal, near the Indian border. The evening is free to rest or explore the bazaar area, full of local flavor and cultural fusion.

Day 3: Fly to Simikot (2,910m) – Gateway to Humla

A thrilling mountain flight takes us to Simikot, the headquarters of Humla district. Nestled on a ridge, Simikot offers the first taste of the Himalayas. You'll notice how remote yet vibrant life is here, with local people in traditional dress going about their day.

Day 4: Trek to Dhiga (3,800m) – Into the Wild

Our trek begins! The trail winds through forests and traditional villages where locals greet you with curiosity and smiles. We reach Dhiga, a peaceful place surrounded by terraced fields and mountain views.

Day 5: Trek to Gatyakhola (2,700m) – Descending into the Valley

We descend through forested paths and follow a beautiful river valley. You’ll pass yak caravans and villagers carrying local goods — a reminder that life here is deeply connected to the land.

Day 6: Trek to Sechi (3,200m) – Land of Herbal Wealth

The trail today winds through pine forests and past wild medicinal plants, many used in Tibetan healing traditions. You might even spot Himalayan monals or blue sheep if you’re lucky.

Day 7: Trek to Tsongsa (3,600m) – Alpine Wilderness

As we continue deeper into the mountains, the landscape becomes more open. The meadows around Tsongsa are dotted with wildflowers in summer. You'll start to feel the sacred calm of the highlands.

Day 8: Trek to Talung (4,200m) – Vast and Serene

We cross alpine pastures, following a quiet trail lined with fluttering prayer flags. Local shepherds might offer you dried yak cheese or stories of mountain spirits.

Day 9: Trek to Takchi (4,400m) – Tibetan Culture Unfolds

In the heart of the Limi Valley, Takchi greets us with stone houses and warm hospitality. The villagers here are of Tibetan origin and have preserved ancient customs, language, and rituals.

Day 10: Trek to Chyakpalong (4,600m) – Path to the Sacred

Today we hike toward the mystical Lapcha La region, with majestic peaks towering all around. You may feel a spiritual calm — this place has long been revered by both locals and pilgrims.

Day 11: Day Hike to Lapcha La Viewpoint (4,900m) – View of Kailash & Manasarovar

A once-in-a-lifetime moment awaits. Early morning, we climb to Lapcha La Viewpoint — the sacred Mt. Kailash and holy Lake Manasarovar appear on the horizon, just across the border in Tibet. It’s a deeply moving sight. We return to camp by afternoon.

Day 12: Trek to Dukling (4,000m) – Descending into a Hidden World

We descend gently along an ancient trade route. Dukling is a peaceful spot surrounded by hills — the kind of place where stars shine brighter and silence speaks volumes.

Day 13: Trek to Halji (3,800m) – Home of Rinchenling Monastery

Halji is one of the most culturally rich villages in Humla. Explore Rinchenling Monastery, believed to be over 1,000 years old. Locals wear traditional woolen robes and spin prayer wheels as they walk by. Life here feels timeless.

Day 14: Trek to Til (4,100m) – Sacred and Remote

Another beautiful Limi village with stunning stone architecture and ancient Buddhist monuments. Til gives you a real sense of what it’s like to live in harmony with harsh but breathtaking nature.

Day 15: Trek to Manipeme (3,970m) – Tracing Pilgrim Trails

Manipeme is near a legendary meditation cave. This place is filled with spiritual energy and is often used by Buddhist practitioners for long retreats.

Day 16: Trek to Hilsa (3,720m) – Gateway to Tibet

We trek to Hilsa, a border town with dramatic river gorges. This is also a checkpoint for pilgrims heading to Mt. Kailash from Nepal. You’ll see a fusion of cultures here.

Day 17: Drive to Simikot – Returning from the Mountains

We follow a newly built road that hugs the cliffs and crosses roaring rivers. The drive is thrilling, scenic, and emotional — a final look at the raw beauty of Humla.

Day 18: Fly to Nepalgunj & Kathmandu – Back to the City

Weather permitting, we fly back to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu. The busy city may feel overwhelming after the quiet of the mountains — but you’ll carry that peaceful

Day 19: Final Departure – Farewell with a Full Heart

Your journey ends today. We’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home. You leave not just with photos, but with the blessings of the mountains and memories to last a lifetime.

Accommodation

Due to the remote and isolated nature of the Limi Valley, accommodation is fully camping-based from Simikot onward. Here's a breakdown:

  • Kathmandu & Nepalgunj: Comfortable hotels with modern amenities.

  • Simikot: Simple local guesthouse or lodge before the trek begins.

  • Beyond Simikot (Dhinga to Hilsa and back): Tent camping in scenic natural settings. All camping gear, including sleeping tents, kitchen tents, and dining tents, is provided. Meals are freshly prepared by an experienced trekking cook, using locally sourced organic products when available.

  • Expect a warm and hospitable environment, with a dedicated crew ensuring cleanliness, comfort, and local flavors throughout your high-altitude adventure.
